Tabit Talk with Elaine Rau
The first thing I do when I wake up is:
Put on my fuzzy red Victoria's Secret bathrobe, go to the Starbucks drive-through and order a Peppermint Mocha (grande). Go back home and start my day off by doing my daily devotions and reading a passage from the Bible in Chinese, English, and Spanish.
I can’t live without:
My #FAB5, which are my group of girlfriends from college! Although we live in all different states, we still get together every year for an epic girls trip, last year we went to Barcelona, London, and Paris for two weeks, this year we hung out in Chicago, next year we will hopefully hit up Japan!
What should every woman try at least once in her life?
A menstrual cup. Not only do you save a ton of money from not having to buy tampons or pads every month, but you also produce much less waste in your lifetime. I haven't ever had a spillage issue with them and if you accidentally forget it in there, it's harmless. I use Daisy Cup.
The last three items on my credit card statement:
1. Burmese restaurant - my new go-to place because the owner is super hilarious and the food is great!
2. A dress from my boutique - for when I speak at the Bloggy Conference this year!
3. Shopify payment - the host for my e-commerce store.
Quote I live by:
Choose your love and love your choice. This goes for marriage, for work, anything really. In other words, make a choice and commit to it. It doesn't mean you can't pivot or change along the way, but life without commitment and hard work to maintain it isn't a life that is worth it for me.
One thing I wish I knew when I was younger:
You are stronger and more capable than you think you are. You'll go through some really heavy stuff, but you have a way of turning pain into power and you will consistently rise above. Never look down on yourself, you should be your best cheerleader first and foremost before anyone else will cheer you on.
If I had one week to escape:
I would go back to Bali and hang out with the friends that I still keep in contact with over Instagram. It's so easy to make friends in Bali it's crazy. Honestly, if my husband didn't have a job that kept us in Chicago, we would be living in Bali right now!!!
Everything tastes better with:
No salt. I don't like to add seasoning to anything really. I like the natural taste of things just the way they are.
On my bookshelf you can find:
5 Day Weekend. This book transformed my way of thinking - my favorite quote from the book is, "If you don’t find a way to make money in your sleep, you will work until you die."
The best piece of advice I’ve ever received:
Some pursue happiness; others create it. Create your own happiness, be content with what you have, and you will live a full life. Happiness is all about perspective; you can choose to be happy or choose not to, either way, your perception will alter your reality.
